Day 1:ARRIVAL NAIROBI – DEPART FOR AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK
Kenya's capital is cosmopolitan, lively, interesting and pleasantly landscaped. Its central business district is handily compact and is a great place to tune into modern urban African life. Today, it is the largest city between Cairo and Johannesburg. Nairobi (green city in the sun) is an attractive and growing city that stands on the edge of the Athi Plains and the gentle slopes of Limuru that rise in the Aberdares Mountains. It is an important business and social center with high-rise buildings and international hotels and a good selection of restaurants serving Indian, Chinese, French, Italian and other cuisine. All about the city are public parks and gardens full of shrubs and flowers and the main routes out of town are tree-lined avenues.
On arrival at Nairobi Airport, after you disembark, proceed through immigration and custom procedures; you will be greeted by your friendly Safari Trails representative. Depart for Amboseli National Park and check in to the Amboseli Sopa Lodge. Have lunch at the lodge.
Nestled in 190 acres of wooded Masai land, the lodge sits on the foot hills of Africa’s highest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro. Mature wooded gardens with a variety of trees and plants, from thorn trees and acacias, to fragrant frangipanis, colourful bougainvillea and giant cactus plants thrive in these surroundings. The rest of your day is at leisure. Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge. (L,D)
Day 2:AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK
Today you have morning and afternoon game drives in Amboseli National park. The Park is famous for its breath-taking views of Kilimanjaro. The Park also shelters more than 420 species of birds. Enormous Elephant population and other big game are attracted to the area by underground springs fed from the melting snows of Mount Kilimanjaro. The Park is known for its felines: Lion, Leopard and cheetah as well as serval and civet cats. Herds of graceful Impala thrive on the short grass in the woodlands, along with the black-faced vervet monkey and Olive Baboon. Hippos live in the open waters and swamp channels and Buffalo feed on the shoreline. This is the place to encounter large numbers of Elephants, observing their complex greeting rituals and the way all the adult females protect and instruct the young. The Amboseli Elephant population is one of the few in Africa that has not been ravaged by poachers.
